Starter Set Books (Read-me-first order)

  1. A solo, choose-your-path tutorial adventure. No Keeper or group needed. It quietly teaches core mechanics as you play: making skill tests on a d100, applying bonus/penalty dice, resisting SAN loss, taking damage, and making choices under pressure. Ideal first step before any group scenario. Estimated time: ~1–2 hours.

  2. Condensed 7th-edition rules used by all starter scenarios. Covers characteristics & skills, rolling under a skill (Regular/Hard/Extreme success), opposed rolls, bonus/penalty dice, combat basics (attacks, damage, injuries), healing, and sanity (loss, temporary/indefinite bouts). Use this as the table reference while you play.

  3. Keeper book containing three linked learning scenarios:
    • Paper Chase — Compact mystery, great for one Keeper + one player (or a small group). Focuses on investigation tempo and basic tests.
    • Edge of Darkness — A classic haunted story for a small group. Emphasizes teamwork, research, and consequences.
    • Dead Man Stomp — 1920s jazz-age chaos with a faster pace; mixes investigation with tense scenes.
Recommended order: Paper Chase → Edge of Darkness → Dead Man Stomp.

  4. Player-facing props: letters, clippings, maps, and notes for the scenarios in Book 3. Print or share digitally. Handouts are typically labeled by scenario—give these to players when the text tells you they discover them.

  5. Blank 7e character sheet for printing and handwriting. Handy if you want to make your own investigator instead of using the pregens.
